Fleurs Etching 4

Our Inspiration:
Horizontal Panel with a Row of Flowers Above a Frieze with Figures in a Landscape, from Livre Nouveau de Fleurs Tres-Util
Nicolas Cochin (French, 1610–1686)
Etching and burin, 2 15/16 x 4 5/8 in., 1645
Harris Brisbane Dick Fund, 1953 53.600.261(11)
Etched by Nicolas Cochin and published in Paris by Balthazar Moncornet, this series of 12 plates depicts rows of flowers above friezes with landscapes. The prints were executed in a combination of techniques—etching (for the landscape) and burin (for the flowers)—and dedicated to the goldsmith Jean de Leins.
