Wilkinson was an archaeologist and curator who produced a number of facsimiles copying ancient Egyptian images found in tombs. Wilkinson painted this depiction of a protective falcon at Deir el Bahri for the Egyptian Expedition of The Metropolitan Museum of Art. The facsimile was brought back to New York and accessioned in 1930.
