Chéret was a celebrated lithographer who created poster advertisements for venues such as the Moulin Rouge. In 1866, he established his own lithography firm in Paris. His bold color palette and decisive outlines influenced fellow printmakers Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec and Alphonse Mucha.
