This Met x Wendover Art Group design is a reproduction of an original work of art in The Metropolitan Museum of Art collection.

Our inspiration: Musée Grévin, Pantomimes Lumineuses,
Théâtre optique de E. Reynaud, musique de Gaston Paulin

Jules Chéret (French, 1836–1932)
Lithograph, 46 7/16 x 34 5/8 in., 1892
Gift of Bessie Potter Vonnoh, 1941   41.12.119

Chéret was a celebrated lithographer who created poster advertisements for venues such as the Moulin Rouge. In 1866, he established his own lithography firm in Paris. His bold color palette and decisive outlines influenced fellow printmakers Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec and Alphonse Mucha.
