Our Inspiration: The Saint of the Inner Light (Die Helige vom inner Licht)
Paul Klee (German, b. Switzerland, 1879–1940)
Lithograph with brown background, 15 3/8 x 10 9/16, 1921
Bequest of Scofield Thayer, 1982 1984.1203.190(5)
Paul Klee had many talents; besides being a painter and draftsman, he was also a master violinist, poet, art and music critic, and teacher. He was most productive while teaching at the Bauhaus, first in Weimar (1921–26) and then in Dessau (1926–31). During those years, he produced almost half of his nearly 10,000 works on paper.
