Mulhouse, Alsace, was an important 19th-century center for textile production in the Haut-Rhin region of France. This design features alternating vertical stripes of undulating ribbons of white color outlined with branches of black color and circles of dark red color with black outlines, over a background of shifting scales with stripes rendered with different concentrations of stipples of dark reddish-brown color over a light tan ground.
